Ce bulletin présente un sommaire des plus récents rapports sur les dommages causés à l'héritage de la Syrie. Il convient de souligner que beaucoup de ces données ne peuvent être vérifiées, mais on espère qu'il aidera à la documentation des dommages survenant, et contribuer à la sensibilisation. Heritage for Peace launch new SHELTR project

  • Patrimoine pour la paix sont heureux d'annoncer qu'ils ont reçu une subvention de la Fondation Gerda Henkel pour créer un cours pour les Syriens enseigner l'importance de, et les intersections entre, nationale, le droit international et islamique, en partenariat avec le groupe Enregistrer patrimoine musulman. Notre objectif est de diffuser le cours par des contacts en Syrie, et par une formation ciblée, la sensibilisation des obligations envers la protection du patrimoine.

Further damage documented in Northern Syria

  • activistes communautaires dans Idlib province ont envoyé les photos DGIA du village bien connu de Dahes dans les UNESCO villages antiques du site du patrimoine mondial Syrie du Nord, montrant des dommages mineurs. Voir la brève et des photographies ici.

  • The Expressen offers hidden camera footage of destruction at Palmyra sur Février 24 2016, disponible ici.
  • Sur Mars 10 2016 the Association of the Protection of Syrian Archaeology released photos and a video showing the bombing of the archaeological site in Palmyra by the Russian Air Forces. DGAM participates in international meetings

  • The DGAM participated in the INTERPOL Experts Group on Stolen Cultural Property on March 8 et 9 2016 in Lyon. Voir les détails ici.

DGAM displays 3D Walk-through of Umayyad Mosque and Ugarit

Sur Février 24 the DGAM announced that it has created 3D models of the Mosquée des Omeyyades et Ugarit, developed in collaboration with ICONEM.

Destruction of cultural heritage destroys human rights

The UN Special Rapporteur for cultural rights, Karima Bennoune, sur Mars 4 2016 declared that a people’s cultural heritage is indivisible from their rights, and that the destruction of heritage is a violation of those rights.”When cultural heritage is under attack, human rights are under attack,” she said. Publications highlight heritage loss

  • A new book by Franklin Lamb entitled “Syria’s Endangered Heritage” is now available. Pour plus d'informations, voir ici.
  • The current edition of the International Journal of Cultural Property includes an article entitled “The Destruction of Cultural Property in the Syrian Conflict: Legal Implications and Obligations”, and is co-authored by HFP’s Dr. Emma Cunliffe. Red Cross agrees to help protect heritage

The International Committee of the Red Cross have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UNESCO to further strengthen cooperation on the protection of cultural property during armed conflict. They have released a Q&A explaining why they have done this whilst, at the same time, pushing the various humanitarian arguments for acting on this issue.

Summary of ASOR conference available

Sur Décembre 11/12 2015 ASOR held a two-day conference in Washington DC discussing projects aiding cultural heritage in Syria. For podcasts and videos from the 2 hour lightening round, covering work ongoing in Syria now, voir ici. International community supplies materials to DGAM

UNESCO is collaborating with the Swiss and the French to support Syrian heritage professionals working in Syria buy supplying materials, detailed ici.

Looting and destruction of Syria’s heritage in the news

  • Le must-read article – sur 12 Mars 2016 the ARCA blog looks at journalist ethics on the reporting of cultural heritage destruction, and how old stories are recycled as new. Voir ici.
  • Also well worth listening to – the BBC has launched a new series called The Museum of Lost Objects, examining cultural heritage destroyed in Syria and Iraq. Voir ici for an overview of the series and a discussion of the Temple of Bel.
